The Story of Affirm Me: How Our Affirmation Practice Led to a Daily Affirmation app

Why affirmations?

Affirmations came to me through a good friend and mentor at a time in my life when I was struggling with anxiety, depression and self-limiting beliefs.

She taught me about something called “The 4 Levels of Power” – one of the levels being the Power of Affirmations.

Totally new to me at the time, I learned that affirmations are powerful statements that go far beyond the words that make them up.

Affirmations are sentences or phrases that you repeat aloud in an attempt to train the subconscious mind to form a new belief system. Your thoughts and attitude about yourself greatly impact not just your health, but every aspect of your being – such as your relationships, wealth, achievements and even your character.

Similar to the use of mantras in a meditation practice, affirmations are a scientifically-proven method that has been used since ancient times. An affirmation practice can lead to greater focus and increased feelings of happiness, well-being, and confidence.

Armed with the newfound knowledge of just how powerful affirmations can be, I set out to transform my own life through building a regular practice.

The Evolution of an Affirmation Practice

When I began my affirmation practice, I wrote down my affirmations in a slew of different places – think scrap paper, notebooks and sticky notes galore. As you can imagine, this often led to losing track of them, and therefore, a lack of consistency.

The natural solution seemed to be adding my affirmations in my phone, so that I would always have them with me. Initially, I tried keeping them in my “to-do” list app, but quickly realized that wasn’t producing an effective practice either.

I recognized the need for a specific safe place where I could save affirmations that mattered to me, as well as track my progress.

A few years and many coffees later, “Affirm Me” was born.

After trying various affirmation apps, I still couldn’t find one that helped me deeply connect with my practice. That’s when I decided it was time to start from square one and learn how to build it myself!!

Odelia joined in at this point and together we wove the fabric of the app from our personal journies. It took many years and many iterations before it looked like it does today, and it wouldn’t have come about at all if not for Odelia’s constant support and creativity along the entire way. Making apps from scratch is hard!!

Together, we continue developing Affirm Me with the mission of empowering others to experience the benefits of this special practice that has transformed our lives.

To date, we’ve been able to incorporate many of the tools that make our own affirmation practice so meaningful, including:

  • A voice recorder, that allows you to speak and play back your affirmations.
  • Original acoustic and ambient music, much of it written and recorded by us!
  • An affirmation journal, allowing you to record what you are looking to heal and attract through your affirmation practice.
  • Hundreds of affirmation suggestions, along with the ability to write your own.
  • Daily reminders and a progress tracker that keeps you accountable.

What’s next for Affirm Me?

In a lifetime where technology is so prevalent, we believe that we can harness that power for the betterment of ourselves and the world around us.

As we continuously improve the Affirm Me, our mission will always remain the same: Spread more kindness each day and leave the world a slightly better place than it was yesterday.

There is so much more to come and we can’t wait to share this journey of creating positive change with you. Join us by downloading the Affirm Me app and sharing it with friends, family, co-workers, or anyone who you think may benefit from it.

We’ll leave you with one of our favorite quotes that summarizes just how powerful an affirmation practice can be:

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.” -Buddha
